Meet Atlantic Blue: Commercial Photography for a Local Water Treatment Company

One of the things I love about working with local businesses is how often our paths cross in unexpected ways.

Before Atlantic Blue ever hired me as their photographer, I hired them.

At one of my previous homes, I needed a substantial amount of well and water-treatment work. Atlantic Blue handled everything from the well pump and pressure tank to filtration, water softening, reverse osmosis, and UV water treatment.

Sometime later, I found myself back in their office—and someone popped their head out of a doorway.

“Are you a photographer? I think we’ve met.”

YEP. That’s me!

As it turned out, Atlantic Blue was looking for new photography and the team had actually been trying to remember my name. Apparently voice recognition is pretty awesome.

And just like that, the relationship flipped.

I hired them. Then they hired me.

Creating Atlantic Blue’s Own Photography Library

Their marketing lead, Jillian, and I planned photography across two locations: Atlantic Blue’s facility and a residential customer’s home.

The goal wasn’t simply to get a few nice pictures. We wanted to create a useful collection of custom imagery showing the people, equipment, services, and customer experience that make Atlantic Blue Atlantic Blue.

For the residential portion, Jillian arrived with crisp new uniforms for the guys, and our incredibly gracious homeowners gave us the run of their home. We staged scenarios to illustrate different services and customer interactions, but the team completed plenty of real work while I photographed, too.

That’s one of my favorite ways to approach commercial photography. Not everything needs to happen spontaneously to feel authentic. We can intentionally create the scenarios a company needs while still photographing real employees, doing real work, with the real tools and equipment they use every day.

It gives us control without losing authenticity.

This Is Why Professional Website Photography Matters

Those photographs have gone on to do exactly what we created them to do.

They’ve appeared in Atlantic Blue’s advertising, newsletter, digital signage, and other marketing—and now they’re used beautifully throughout the Atlantic Blue website.

And I LOVE seeing that.

I photograph so many businesses specifically for their websites, and I’ll never stop being amazed by the difference great custom photography makes once everything comes together.

You can have the most beautifully designed website in the world. The typography can be perfect. The colors can be gorgeous. The copy can be thoughtful. The user experience can be seamless.

But if the imagery on your website isn’t good?

The entire thing suffers.

Photography occupies so much visual real estate on a modern website that it isn’t decoration. It’s part of the design.

That’s why seeing my clients put their finished photographs to work is one of my favorite parts of what I do. Atlantic Blue’s website doesn’t just tell you what the company does—it lets you see the people who do it.

Their employees. Their uniforms. Their equipment. Their trucks. Their actual work.

A generic stock-photo technician can’t do that.

And when strong web design and strong custom photography come together?

That’s when a business’s website really starts to feel like their business.

Atlantic Blue’s site is such a great example of that.

Sometimes You’re the Client. Sometimes You’re the Photographer.

There’s another reason this project has always stuck with me.

Sometimes you simply need what another local business does.

And then, someday, they need what you do.

Atlantic Blue had the expertise and equipment to take care of a huge project at my home. Later, I had the expertise and equipment to help visually tell the story of theirs.

There’s something wonderfully full-circle about that.

It’s one of my favorite things about doing business locally. We hire each other. We refer each other. We recommend each other. And over time, all of those little connections become a community of businesses supporting businesses.

I hired them. Then they hired me right back.

And I’m awfully glad they remembered my voice.

Thanks, Jillian and the entire Atlantic Blue team, for trusting me to put your real people—and the work they do—in front of my camera. And whoever is putting those photographs to work on the website: keep it up. They look SO GOOD.
