A few years ago, I met Suzanne Forest at the Maryland Writers Association Convention, where I was offering pre-booked portrait mini sessions for authors and creatives. We created a bright, friendly portrait on a white backdrop — perfect for where she was at the time.
But as Suzanne’s writing evolved, so did her visual needs.
Now writing under the name Author S. L. Field, her work lives in a darker, more epic literary space — the kind of storytelling filled with long histories, quiet tension, and the shadows of a thousand-year war.
The cheerful portrait no longer fit the voice behind the work.
So we designed a new session to match.

With dramatic light, deeper tones, and a quieter mood, we created portraits that reflect the atmosphere of Suzanne’s writing — thoughtful, serious, and just a little mysterious.

We also incorporated her newest book cover into a few images through a bit of Photoshop magic, allowing her to begin marketing the novel even before the physical copies are printed.
Because the right portrait isn’t just about how someone looks — it’s about aligning the image with the story they’re telling.

We chose the beautiful The Last Word Bookstore in downtown Mt. Airy as our setting (thank you to the wonderfully gracious owner, Erin Matthews, for opening the space to us https://thelastwordbookstore.com/).
